Tools for All Types of Marketing Strategies: Social Media Marketing

Tools for All Types of Marketing Strategies is a series on my blog that I use to share new marketing tools I have discovered that can work for all types of marketing strategies.

As a marketer, I am constantly looking for ways to work smarter.  I trust the tools shared within this series will be informative and helpful to you as well.

Leverage Media & Chris Lake/Econsultancy help me to kick off this week’s series.

From Leverage Media as shared on www.business2community.com, you can easily see how well the below infographic provides a great way to visually communicate a lot of social media information.  This social media comparison chart is sure to become a great reference tool to help marketers easily educate their leadership and clients through the social media decision-making process in regards to the differences between Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Google+.

Tools for All Types of Marketing StrategiesHighlights within the chart include:
Pinterest

  • 70 million active users
  • 68% female.  I would have thought the number would be much higher.
  • Biggest opportunity:  DISCOVERY!  I’ve witnessed Pinterest become a top 3 referring website to a number of marketing campaigns.  There is value in the potential of future customers discovering your website and products if you use Pinterest.

Twitter

  • 560 million active users
  • 5700 tweets every second…and growing!
  • Biggest opportunity:  Find your niche and feed them applicable and enjoyable content.

Facebook

  • 1 billion users worldwide
  • Users share 2.5 billion pieces of content each day
  • Biggest opportunity:  Genuine communication with your customers

Instagram

  • 150 million active users
  • Social site focused on photos & video sharing
  • Biggest opportunity:  Creating an engaging, custom hashtag promotion that reaches your target audience

Google+

  • 400 million active users
  • 925,000 new users every day
  • Biggest opportunity:  Not as many brands are active on Google+.  The market is open to join and become first to reach your audience on Google+.

LinkedIn

  • 240 million active users
  • 79% of users are 35 years or older
  • Biggest opportunity:  professional networking

Content marketing is definitely the marketing term for 2014.  With so many variables to consider in effectively and efficiently establishing, developing, and consistently executing a solid content marketing plan, I forward a special thanks to Chris Lake for sharing The Periodic Table of Content Marketing on econsultancy.com this week.

The Periodic Table of Content Marketing, by Chris Lake.

The Periodic Table of Content Marketing

I really appreciate the investment of time he took to graphically create this great tool that also outlines the seven steps to successful content marketing:

  1. Define the strategy
  2. Determine the formats to use
  3. Figure out the content types that will appeal to your target audience
  4. Share the content
  5. Track and measure the key metrics
  6. Identify the main sharing triggers
  7. Double check your work.

So there you have it, the inaugural post of Tools for All Types of Marketing Strategies.

What tools have you discovered this week?

Brad Poel says:

Very informative post, Rodney! Thanks! The social platform comparison infographic is VERY educational! Such a great, byte-size, side-by-side comparison. It struck me that Twitter’s column did NOT include hashtags. I think of Twitter much more as the hashtag outlet than Instagram. Thanks for the tools, Rodney.

Sure thing, Brad! Glad you find these resources valuable as well. ..more to come!
